Crazy Kids

In class I constantly talk to my kids about my family. My maw maw, my paw paw, my cousins, my parents, and recently my brother. I informed my students my brother and his wife were going to find out on this past Thursday whether or not they were expecting a son or a daughter. Friday morning this is the conversation I engaged in...

Student A: Miss Lasley are you going to be an aunt or an uncle?
Me: Am I going to be an aunt or an uncle... hum... let's think about that
Student A: (confused face...) oh wait... are you going to have a niece or a nephew?
Me: OH... a niece!

OCD

I hesitate writing about my kids but this is funny... today in class I allowed the students to chat the last 2 minutes.. I over heard the following convo..

Student A : I think I have a STD problem
Student B: huh?  What's that?
Student A: I don't know but if things aren't in order I go crazy
Student B: OH

I think she meant OCD!....

................

Ever get to the point of silence.  Dead silence.  That is where I am.  Who knew the sound of silence could be so loud?  Not me.  For so long it wasn't silent.  The constant listening and responding.  SO i ask my self, is it really silent or have I stopped listening?

Maw Maw

If you are not my facebook friend, become my facebook friend and go watch the video posted in my profile about Maw Maw.  I promise you will laugh, I promise you will think, I promise you will understand a little of where I get my randomness.  Let me fill you in on Maw Maw.  The woman is amazing.  She has lived and continues to live an amazing life.  She has worked hard, she has sacrificed, she has maintained the status of a woman of character and one to admire.  At first glimpse, one may not see these qualities but her wrinkles tell a story most do not know.  Being a Farmer's wife, Maw Maw was the one up early cooking breakfast, working in the garden, raising three kids, maintaining the home, and hardly ever seeing her husband except at meal time.  Think about it.  Paw Paw would leave early and come back late everyday.  Granted he was either in the field or in the barn, but not at the home.  Yeah sometimes I laugh at my Maw Maw and say she is crazy (and she is) but she is AMAZING as well.

BUT>>>> on a lighter note.  Go watch the video.  Know the toucan has been in the house for over a year.  She still laughs until she cries each time she plays with it.  I honestly think when I'm 83 I'm going to be the same way.  Kind of scary, but mostly funny!

...speachless...

Y2K. Do ya'll remember that? The big scare. The world is going to come to an end. Well for me the year 2000 was when it all started. The IT being me wanting a truck. Not just any truck, but a Green Toyota Tacoma. So to say I was happy when I finally purchased my Green Toyota Tacoma last Tuesday, almost 9 years later, is an understatement. Seriously, ya'll have no idea unless you have known me during this period of time. All the way during High School and College I would see one on the road, in a parking lot, or just in a picture and I would say, "There goes my truck. I'm getting one of those one of these days." 8 years ya'll. 8 years!! It's perfect. I think I married it, because in my mind it's a death til we part relationship. I love it. I wish I had better words to describe my excitement but there aren't any.

Some people think it's strange for a girl to want a truck. That's all the grief my momma was giving me. The entire process of signing up for insurance or getting the loan she would say to the man across the desk, "yes, she wants a truck. I should have sent her to finishing school." Well momma, sorry. You don't need to justify who I am or what I want. Who said girls are supposed to drive cars? Who said girls need to wear dresses? Who said that a girl has to look a certain way or do certain things? Well, I reckon I am a rare breed. I'm not going to settle for what everybody else thinks I should be, look like, or Drive. I am Heather. Heather likes trucks. Heather likes sports. Heather likes NOT wearing dresses. I'm just me. Some people may see that at being defiant, but you can't change who you are.
